When did you create your Hotmail account? Was it after September 27,
2004, when Microsoft changed their policy regarding WebDAV (HTTP) access
to freebie Hotmail accounts? Do you have PAID account or are you using
a freebie account at Hotmail? Freebie Hotmail accounts created before
September 27 are grandfathered in so Outlook and Outlook Express will
continue to work for WebDAV access to those accounts. However, accounts
created after that date will not get grandfathered in, so you must PAY
for a Hotmail account to get WebDAV access to it. Although the old
accounts got grandfathered in, Microsoft can change their mind at any
time since they are under no contractual obligation for free accounts.

WebDAV access for freebie Hotmail accounts is supposed to end sometime
this month. Even before this, users of freebie accounts were
encountering problems because Microsoft began to implement a graphical
security prompt that occurred during the login process to query the user
to enter a character string to qualify that a human was accessing the
account instead of a script by a spammer. The WebDAV script in Outlook
[Express] wasn't coded to handle it and probably can't be coded to
handle the prompt since a graphical image is presented that is
supposedly not machine readable. So occasionally the freebie account
user has to use the webmail interface and answer the intervening
security prompt so it goes away for awhile to make Outlook [Express]
work again.

punctuation.

I respond to posts in the newsgroup. I do not respond via e-mail as
that is a ploy used by spammers to harvest valid e-mail addresses. If
you have the time to post here, you have the time to check here for
replies. After all, you are the one asking the question.
