I did a clean install of XP Pro SP2 recently. Then I lost most of the
windows fonts that were on the disk already with my previous XP Pro. Where
do I find and re-install missing fonts. Any help would be appreciated.

Fonts can come from different places. The Windows XP disc has some
of the TruType fonts. MS Office Suites contributes its own set as
well as other applications when they get installed. Other fonts can
be downloaded as freeware or shareware from the Internet. These are
just some of the ways to rebuild the font set if one does not exist
on backup somewhere.

To add to the list of information that others have provided, I routinely
make sure that my Windows\Fonts folder is backed up. It is simple to do.
Create a folder called Fonts some place other than in the Windows folder.
You can use Windows Explorer to copy the fonts to the new folder but you
need to make sure that show hidden or systems files is turned on first or
use the DOS command interface by clicking Start, Run and type CMD. The
commands MD C:\FONTS then press Enter key and then XCOPY
C:\WINDOWS\FONTS\*.* C:\FONTS and then press Enter key will copy all the
TruType and fixed fonts (.FON extension) to the backup folder. Of course
the backup folder should then be copied to a removable device (CD, USB hard
drive, etc.) Won't lose the fonts then when you reformat (also makes it
easy to ensure that multiple computers have the same fonts on them.)
