I was closing my browser and I got a mesage that a download was in progress
and do I still want to close. I have no idea what was being downloaded.

That brings me to my question...is there any way, like a history file, to
find out what has been downloaded to my computer?

I have WinXP Home and I use the latest FireFox and IE browsers.

Your PC is probably set for automatic updates by Microsoft, that is good.
Look in the bottom righthand corner next to the clock the next time it does
that for an update icon by MS. You can change it to manual updates, but
is not recommended for most people forget to update. To check on your
updates, use Windows Explorer and click the small + sign in front of Windows
and you'll see them all listed in blue. Blue means the files are compressed.
