I have a sony dvd dw 10a dvd burner and I need to find out which firmware
level is installed. I went to the device manager, and it was no help. How
do I tell which firmware level is installed?

Thanks in advance.

Well here is a bright idea for you. Why don't you go to
the hardware manufactures website for help and not a
software manufacture that does not produce DVD drives.

It appears that at least some of Sony's firmware updater programs will show
the current firmware verison, so you will know if you need to go on.

Start-Run-msinfo32-Components-CDROM-PnPDeviceID
The number between the underlines ____1.06____ is your firmware version.

Here's another bright idea... if you have nothing useful to say... don't say
anything at all.

This is a completely valid question as Windows 95,98,Me all show firmware
revisions of hardware in Device Manager.

The answer is to open up msinfo32 or winmsd by going to Start > Run and type
msinfo32 and hit OK. System Information should open. The firmware should
be listed under Components > CD-ROM > PNP Device ID

You will see something like this:

PNP Device ID
IDE\CDROMSAMSUNG_CD-ROM_SN-124___________________N102____\5&33D6CA78&0&0.0.0

As you can see from my example N102 is the firmware revision. This works
with about 99% of all drives. There are those few that do not get detected
this way.

Next time answer the question or move on to the next one.

Hope this helps,

My experience with Sony supplied firmware updates for CD/DVD drives is that
the installer first checks the drive. If the update is not appropriate or
needed, the installer terminates with a not needed message.
