How do I find back up?

When downloading SP1 I clicked the 'back up' option.
I then had a problem with reboot and had to use the XP cd (with the option to repair rather than full re-install).
Now I've lost most functionality - how can I get to the back up system and files?
System restore won't go back beyond the date of XP cd load.
 
the backup option will only help you if you want to
uninstall sp1. it doesnt backup the data on your HD.
because it seems like you couldnt even use your computer
to uninstall it, thats not going to do you much good.

if you did a recovery install via the windows xp cd, you
shouldnt have lost any data on your HD.

if your data is gone at this point, i would say its gone
for good. if its there its there, if its not, then its
not.
