How do I enable macros in excel?

How do I enable macros in excel? or get rid of the message "The macros in
this project are disabled. Please refer to the online help or documentation
to determine how to enable macros" which is popping up after every time I try
to edit a cell at the moment.

close your workbook - but leave excel open
choose tools / macro / security
change the settings to medium
click Ok

open your workbook again.
