How do I enable/disable events in Access

Using Access 2002.

Excel VBA has an enable/disable events. eg. Application.EnableEvents = False
to suppress the calling of routines from other procedures.

Access does not recognise it. Is there another way of doing this in Access?

All help greatly appreciated.
