How do I display the "&" in the footer?

Our company name contains the "&" but I cannot get it to appear when I type it in the custom footer.
IE: Shoes & Socks Inc. appears as "Shoes Socks Inc.

We have Office 200 & Office XP and it happens in both versions of Excel.
