How do I Delete Personal Folders

I have two copies of "Personal Folders" showing up in
my "All Mail Folders". I can't delete ether of these
Folders. When I select close "Personal Folders" I get
the following message:

The Operation Failed. An object could not be found.

The two Folders act like a mirror image of each other, if
I add or delete a folder to one it shows up in the other,
and both are updated when I send or receive e-mail.

This sure seems like a bug to me. Any ideas?

Andy,

Did you ever receive a reply to your post?

I have similar problem. I don't receive error messages or
failed operations, but I'd like to get rid of one of the
PERSONAL FOLDERS.

I move my .PST from my old PC running Outlook 97 to a new
PC running XP and Outlook 2003. The PERSONAL FOLDERS are
identical, except for the icon in front of each.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks. Ben - (e-mail address removed)

Search this newsgroup for "ghost and folders" and you'll find an answer.

I have the same proble of duplicate personal folders and
no apparent way to delete one of them. Please let me know
if you have found a solution.

If you cannot R click and close the duplicate set, you need to remove its
reference in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook

Within the Outlook folder, there are a bunch of folders with long
hexadecimal values for names -- those are the ones you need to look in to
see if you can find the ghost .PST names. If you delete one of the keys and
it points to your real .PST file instead of one of the ghosts, it's not the
end of the world -- your data won't be gone. The worst you would have to do
is recreate your Outlook profile.

Russ,

thank you so much, I jsut di what you suggested and found a couple dozen hex
line items in the list, but only three of them (the exact number of
duplicates that I had) had the words "Personal Folders" wihtin the hex Hkey.
I deleted them and everything si back to normal. Although, the problem
didn't actually cause a problem, it was annoying to look at.

thanks again
