how do I delete all duplicate contacts

I have merged databases with a couple of hand held PDA's over the past two
years and now for some reason it has doubled the number of contacts. What
should be 2,000 is now 4,000 and it slows down my searches. How can I delete
all duplicate entries without going into each company and doing it by
hand...ugh!
