I have a new XP updated Pentium 800 with 640 RAM, full 300 watt tower. Had
a new hard drive added with clean install of XP home [update]. Since I
first got this computer home I have been getting error reports. I found the
video driver needed to be updated through the device manager so thought that
took care of it. It may have taken care of that issue but now I have
another. If I could read the error report I might be able to figure out
what to do. Is there a tutorial or a way to match the info. I have started
to keep a text file of where the error occurs think I can figure it out that
way.

The computer suddenly shut down and rebooted. When it came back up the error
report was ready. I allowed it to be sent. Will I receive any feedback from
Microsoft from those reports?

Here is the error info.

Hi Sarah,

You don't decipher the error reporting info, it is sent to help identify
issues. You would use the event viewer to help identify the problem. The
error code you listed, BCCode 1a, happens as a memory management error. It
may indicate faulty or mismatched ram. If you want to check the memory,
there are free programs here:

Explanation:
This is a Windows 2000 Executive character-mode STOP message. It indicates a general memory management problem.

User Action:
If this is the first time you have booted after installing new hardware, remove the hardware and boot again. Check the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the hardware and its drivers are compatible with Windows 2000. For information about the hardware, contact the supplier. If you are installing Windows 2000 for the first time, check the Windows 2000 system requirements, including the amount of RAM and disk space required to load the operating system. Also, check the Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the system can run Windows 2000. If Windows 2000 is loaded and no new hardware has been installed, reboot with recovery options set to create a dump file. If the message continues to appear, select the Last Known Good option when you reboot. If there is no Last Known Good configuration, try using the Emergency Repair Disk. If you do not have an Emergency Repair Disk, contact your technical support group.

I did have 250 RAM added to this computer when I had it updated. They had a
problem locating the proper RAM simms or drams whatever. It would be useful
for me to find out exactly what is going on since I will have to have them
check if the one they installed is faulty or if it is one I already had gone
bad.
