how do I deactivate show/hide icon on Office 2003.

I have recently installed Office 2003 - student version. Having activated the
Show/Hide Icon I am unable to de-activate it by re-clicking on the toolbar as
normal. Consequently every page of text is now populated with the icon.

Is there another way of de-activating this icon? My operating system is XP

Try tools, options, view. Under show and formatting
marks, choose what you want to view.
