How do i create an email address without setting up a contact? It's really
annoying if a contact has multiple email addresses called "Mr X email 1" "Mr
X email 2" etc because i have to keep looking at the properties to see which
is which.

You can't. Why don't you just change the display name for each address you
enter for a specific contact?

be read-only - (i'm on the "SMTP - Address" tab of the property page of the
contact)

s'ok i've found out through trial and error. Right-clicking on the email
address in the contact puts the properties up with a writable version of the
display name.

Outlook 2000 help, type in "change contact display name", no help whatsoever.

hang on - that updates the display name of the contact email address, but
doesn't update the display name when you fire up an email address in a new
email

is that a bug?

Sorry, sometimes some post slips through...
When you open the contact from your Contacts folder at the e-mail section
you can specify the Display Name per e-mail address.

thanks for replying

yes i have tried this - it doesn't work. i have opened the contact,
right-clicked on the email address in the "E-mail" field to pop up
properties. Changed the Display Name to something appropriate e.g. "Mr X Work
Email" and saved.

I then create an email, hit "To", select "Contacts" from the dropdown. It
still says "Mr X (E-mail)" and "Mr X (E-mail 2)" and i have no idea which is
the work email and which is the home email.

Please help?? I cannot believe no-one has ever had this problem before. ...
am i missing something simple ????
