How do I create a message with my boss's out-of-office assistant .

I allegedly have unrestricted permission/access to his Outlook. I was asked
to "Put an out of office message on my e-mail for today only." I opened his
inbox and went through the motions but it didn't take. (I think it ended up
on my e-mail instead.) This is probably dead simple, but right now I am
defeated.
We have XP Professional and MicroSoft Office 2003. Guidance?

You would have to start Outlook with a profile that logs directly into the
boss' mailbox, not into yours.

Alternatively, if you really do have full access, you may be able to use
Outlook web access. The URL would probably be:
http://servername/exchange/your_boss_alias_name/
