I am trying to create a form using a drop down list. When I put the names in
to the list and say "OK" the name showing is defaulting to whatever is first
on the list. It does not give a drop down list. I also would like it to
fill the field if you start typing a name from the list.

You must protect the document for forms before your dropdown list field is
usable.

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this
in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles. You may also want to look at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm.

You will need to protect the document (template) for forms. Unfortunately,
it won't let you start typing to select. So far as I know, you have to use
the mouse.

Hope this helps,
