How do I control outgoing email?

Every now and then when I sign onto my email, there is an outgoing email that
I have not written that is sent out. Is there a way to control outgoing
emails so that they can only go out if you click on "send"?

I have good virus programs and scan often, so I'm relatively sure it is not
a virus. My virus programs are updated frequently each week.

What's being sent is probably a read-receipt.

Thank you, Jeff, that is what I thought - but I received an email from a
place and name I did not know just after one that said my email was blocked
because of its style - I have no idea who it is, they are not in my address
book, and I have no idea what the email contained. I am prompted each time
before I okay a return receipt so avoid this kind of thing.
Thank you for your time and I sure wish it were going to be that easy for me.

What version of Outlook do you have? Are you up-to-date on service packs?
There were some bugs in Outlook (particularly the initial release of 2002)
that sent read receipts regardless of your settings in certain situations.
All known bugs of this type are fixed in the latest service packs of 2002
and 2003.
