How do I combine paragraphs in Track Changes?

I am editing a book manuscript for a client using the Track Changes feature
in Word 2000. I need to be able to delete line spaces between paragraphs and
to attach paragraphs to preceeding paragraphs. For some reason, as soon as I
turn on Track Changes I am unable to do this, although all other changes seem
to work.

I don't recall ever encountering this problem before, but I haven't used
Track Changes that many times in the past.

Am I doing something wrong or is this just something that can't be done with
Track Changes?

When your project is completed and all changes accepted,
your changes will appear as you intended. You can accept
individual changes, but then the client won't see that you
have made a change.

A little conversation with your client should enable the
two of you to work this out.

Cuck:

I guess I wasn't clear enough: I have a digital file of the orginal which I
want to keep intact. I have copied it into a new file to work on. In that new
file--before I turn on Track Changes--I can put my cursor at the beginning of
a paragraph and backspace to join it to the end of the previous paragaph. As
soon as I turn on Track Changes I can't do that. I'm able to delete and
insert copy anywhere I want. I can cut an paste, etc. In other words, all the
editing features of Word seem to work with Track Changes turned on, except
the ability to delete the return and/or line and word spaces between the end
of one paragraph and the beginning of the next. Something seems to be locked,
but not in the original or the copy--only when Track Changes is turned on.

I have the Reviewing toolbar up, but I don't see a Final View option. Can
you explain what it is and where I should see it?

Ted

The Track Changes feature in Word 97/2000 is a little different than
in Word 2002/2003. Not that they necessarily behave differently, but
some options and how you view Tracked Changes is different. IOW you
don't have a Final View option.

Are you showing changes on the screen? Did you go to Tools/Track
Changes/Highlight Changes and turn off "Highlight changes on screen"?
(Which is similar to Final View in other versions)

If not then you will not see the paragraphs move. You should see
revision marks instead.
