How do I change the margins of displayed messages in Outlook?

We would like to be able to change the margins so that new email messages we
type are set wider than the default format. Does anyone know how this is
accomplished?
 
the margins are set by the size of the compose window. You can't adjust the
white space between the edge of the window and the text.
 
Then how some email messages we've received (from other Outlook users) are
set to a longer line length?...

They've set a different wrap point that you have, perhaps.
Tools>Options>Mail Format>Internet Format for plain text messages.
