I need to change a numbering scheme from 01 to 001 so that all my numbers
will have the same number of characters, i.e., 001 and 101 (3 characters
each). Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

What kind of "numbering" are you talking about? Page numbering? Paragraph
numbering? Line numbering?

Paragraph numbering - the number can be no longer than 4 characters long,
i.e., 0001 and/or 0101. Thanks.

You could use seq fields to number the lines - {SEQ list1 \# "0000"} ? Copy
and paste the field to any other line you want numbering then update the
fields in the document. (CTRL+A then F9)
