I have a Toshiba SD-R5372 optical drive, and I am wondering how to
change it from being the master, to being the slave.

It came as the optical drive being master, and the hard drive being
slave, but I need to switch that around.

On the back of each device there are 3 sets of pins with 1 little jumper.
These are marked.
At the moment yours are set as Tosh = master. HD = slave. Just move the
little jumpers to the correct positions.

If both devices are set to CS (Cable Select) you need to reverse the
connections on the ribbon cable so that the HD is on the end connector and
optical drive is on centre connector.

Quite agree Mike, but sometimes awkward to do, so as the OP mentions
master\slave,
I kept him on the same path.(He`ll probably come back now to ask, `what`s CS
<g>).
best wishes..OJ

CS is cable select. Now he doesn't have to ask. Cable Select got off to a
rocky start with various permutations that confused everybody for a while.
It's standardized now. What ever you plug into the end is the master, what
ever goes in the middle is the slave.

haha, i almost forgot, yeah, the jumper pins have to be on CS for that to
work.
