Right click on the file you want to change and select rename. Just remember
changing the file extension does not change the file to that type. What are
you wanting to do ..?

To rename a file, right click on it and select rename. But
this can cause trouble, the file would be unusable if you
did not know how to restore the correct extension or know
what program to use.

To change the file format and extension, such as a bmp to a
jpg, open the file with the appropriate program and use the
"save as" command and the drop-down menu to change the file
type. This works to change photos or documents such as WORD
to a WordPerfect format or an Excel spreadsheet to a
different program type, or a universal format.

Open the file in its existing form. Then use File > Save As and change the
file type in the "Save as Type" drop down list to save the data in a
different format. This is the only method that will change the file format
from one type to another.

There are the rare occasions where you really want to change the existing
extension. You may want to test the results of renaming with a copy of the
file before trying it on the original file.

You can enclose the new file name in quotes to force the change of the
extension. Example: to change file.xxx to file.yyy - right click on the file,
select rename and then type in "file.yyy" Press Enter. You will get a warning
that the change could cause the file contents to become unusable. Confirm
to go ahead with the extension change.
