how do i change an access number field to a text field?

I downloaded the recipe collection database, but the quantity field in the
subform is set up as a number field and will only accept whole numbers and
decimals. It should be set up as a text field so that you can enter regular
cooking measurements such as 2/3. How do I change this field?

Are you sure you want that? Does the app provide a way to change the servings
and have all of the ingredients automatically adjust? If so that will only work
with a numeric field.

I only bring that up because a recipe app I threw together has that feature
(after I saw the ability on several recipe web sites) so I figured it might be
common.
