I have a whole column of numbers that should be displayed in a dollars and
cents format, dollar sign optional, they have been entered as whole numbers
however. The format cells feature wipes out the right hand group though...???

Dave, put 100 in an unused cell, select it and copy, select the range with
the 2500's ,right click and paste special, divide, this should change them
to 25 format as you wish

Hi Dave,
In addition to what Paul said for correcting the existing
data, if you like the feature of inputting 2500 and having
Excel recognize that as 25.00, then go to Tools-Options-
Edit and check the Fixed Decimals option and set it at 2
decimals. Just remember though, that it will always
require you to input your data to the equivalent of 2
decimals. In other words if you put in 25 it will always
read it as .25 which sometimes can be an inconvenience.
