so it can be sent over the web. AOl will only send something like 16 MB. I
guess I can try copying it to the clipboard and creating two files but that's
a lot of handholding on the mouse as it highlights so I'm at a loss here. Any
help out there? O and by the way, thank you Suzanne from Microsoft for giving
me the "^c" command to copy text with symbols from the page into the
"find/replace" window: it worked like a charm and saved me about 2,886 by
hand replacements so I am eternally grateful to you. ( Big Heart Emoticon)

You might want to investigate Master/Subdocuments or (if this is a "one time"
thing) you can select one portion at a time more easily in a couple ways:

1- Put the insertion point in the -middle- of the doc & use Shift+Ctrl+Home
to select the first 1/2 and do ypur copy & paste to a new doc. Then start at
the same spot & use Shift+Ctrl+End to select the last 1/2, etc.

2- Place insertion point at beginning of doc, scroll to middle & Shift-Click
to select first 1/2 repeat for second 1/2.

Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, and Ctrl+V are Windows-wide shortcuts.

21.6 megs... Brrr.

Before you do anything else, print out these instructions.
Next, make a copy of your document. Give it another name.
Open that copy.

Since AOL accepts 16 megs (brrr) try moving to the middle of
the file somehow. (Go to page 176 for example.) Set the
mouse curser at some point that seems logical. (And write
the last words just before the mouse down on paper just to
be sure.) Now while holding down the left shift and left
control keys press the Home key. (This will move you to the
beginning of the document.) Press control-C. Press
control-N. Press control-V. Press control-S. Enter a
document name ("Part1" for example.) Click on "Save". Press
control-W to close the document.

You've saved the first part of the document. You'll be
returned to the original document.

Hit the "del" (delete) key. This erases the text you just
saved.

Click on "File". Click on "Save as". Enter a document name
("Part2" for example.) Click on "Save". Press control-W to
close the document.

You've saved the second part of the document. You can now
discard the copy you made.

Clue 1: Don't make documents so big in future. Break them up
into sections or chapters or something instead.

Clue 2: For large files I've also found that .RTF (rich text
format) is more economical (in terms of volume) than Word's
native .DOC format unless you've got pictures etc in the
file. If you do have pictures, it's better to insert links
to the images into the file and not the actual images
themselves.

Zip compression would probably get it down below 16 MB as well.
