I type notes on several clients in a Word document. I would like to
automatically create a list of these clients by setting up a command that
would read the client names only, then create the list without me having to
type each one individually.

In answer to a similar question here or elsewhere, someone else suggested
inserting XE fields and creating an index. This would have the advantage of
also listing the numbers of the pages where the clients are referenced.

Thank you Suzanne, but could you step me through inserting XE fields in order
to create the index?

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Numbering/CreateIndex.htm or Word's Help under
"Create and index." Ordinarily I would advise against using a concordance,
but in your situation it might be more practical than in most.
