I want to be able to activate my screensaver without waiting for it to cut
in after a time out. How can I do this?

Locate the screensaver file (it will have an .scr extension), right click
and create a shortcut. Put the shortcut on your desktop and double-click it
when you want the screensaver to kick in.

I use "The Wonderful Icon" and configured it to launch the Screen Saver
when I press the "Multiply" key in the numeric keypad. Leave the PC,
press the key; it becomes instinctive very quickly.

I have found 12 .scr files in C:\WINDOWS\system32, another 11 in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache and a further 3 in C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\tmp4152.tmp. How do I know which one to
use?

Use any one you like in the c:\windows\system32 folder.
