How do I activate autocomplete for addresses

With Outlook 2000, how do you get a new mail to "autocomplete" the address
that you are typing into the "To..." field? It recognises names which are
already in the contacts, but when you type the first three characters, it
doesn't autocomplete it.

You can't. That feature was introduced in Outlook 2002.
