how can I delete a computer from my home network. I tried disabling the
network drive, but the person's shared docs folder is still there. Help
me!!!!

For A Workgroup Network:

Right Click on "My Computer" for the machine that you wish to remove from
the network.
Choose Properties
Select the Computer Name tab
Hit the Change button
Change the name of the Workgroup to something different that the actual
workgroup name used by the rest of the pc's

Click OK, all the way out of all the dialogs and re-boot the computer.

The other computers will still show the removed computer in the Workgroup
and the removed computer will still show the other pc's for a short period
of time after this. A re-boot of all the pc's at once can solve this.

Is the computer that you want to delete from the network still
physically connected to the network? If so, disable sharing on that
computer:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right click the local area network connection.
3. Click Properties.
4. Un-check the box "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks".

On the other computers, open My Network Places, right-click the shared
docs or other undesired folder, and click Delete, which will remove it
from My Network Places.

I don't think that will do what Mitch wants, Scott. Windows
networking supports multiple workgroups. A computer in any workgroup
can see and access a computer in any other workgroup.

Changing the workgroup name doesn't remove a computer from a network,
and it doesn't remove shortcuts to that computer from My Network
Places on other computers.

Hi Steve,

There is an even more general problem behind this:
a) I played with the network wizards and it created several networks, which
are now listed in my network neigborhood under the Micorsoft Windows Networks.
There is no "delete" menu item to get rid of them.

b) I created wireless netork connections and there the "delete" item is
there, but inactive

c) I made a big mistake during insztallation by selecting some "comfort"
option for wireless networking (don't remeber the wording of the question).
Now windows refused to let me manage wireless networks with the tools that
came with my adpater.
How can I tell Windows to accept that i use my own tools ???

Any hints appreciated
