How is it possible to set up my XP so that when I click a button to
another folder on the LINKS toolbar (which I have made visible) then the
other folder is shown by replacing the one being shown?

At the moment when I click on a LINKS button I get a new Windows
Explorer to show the other folder. This happens irrespective of whether
I start with a single pane or double pane view.

If I understand the situation correctly

Tools, Folder options, General tab, Browse Folders, same window.

Thanks for the reply Bob.

I checked and the weird thing is that it is already set to browse
folders in same window. (I also set XP to use the classic interface).

But clicking on a LINK button opens the new folder in a NEW window.

Humm, LINK? Perhaps it's the Internet Explorer setting that is
triggering it. Try setting IE to reuse windows when launching shortcuts.
