How can I retrieve the previous version of a Word file I saved?

I just screwed up and saved the wrong version of my document. There must be
a way to unsave, or to revert to the prior version, or access the prior
version. Help!

Yep, reopen the docuemnt (the one you saved wrongly). File -> Save As... In
the dialog box, drop down the Files of Type box (below filename) and just
select the correct format. Click Save when you're done.

Thanks Candice, that's not quite it. I created and saved the document. I
opened the document, significantly modified it, accidentally deleted a major
portion of it and saved it. I want the version back before I accidentally
deleted the major portions.....do you know if that's possible?

It is only possible if you have the 'always create backup copy' option set
in tools > options > save. Or if you have not closed the document since
saving it, you can use undo to replace the missing data. Otherwise it is
gone.

If it's still open, you can Undo. If you've closed it but have
"Automatically create backup copy" enabled, then you can retrieve a previous
version by displaying "All Files" and looking for "Backup of
<filename>.wbk."
