How can I restore the appearance to the default settings?

I've been playing with the desktop>properties>appearance
tab>advanced settings, and have gotten my computer into a
state of customization that I don't like. I'm having a
hard time undoing my mistakes, and I'm wondering if there
is a way to restore the appearance back to the default
settings? I'm using XP Pro.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

on the appearance tab try switch "windows & buttons" to
classic style press apply switch to XP style press apply.
