can anyone please tell me how to remove a drop-down menu from a cell
or column?

If you're talking about removing a Data Validation list that displays in a
cell

Try this:
Select the offending cell

From the Excel Main Menu:
<data><validation>...Allow: Any Value...Click [OK]
