How can I refresh the system tray?

OS is Windows XP Pro SP2.

I have seen that some others on this newsgroup have had the same problem,
but so far none of you has posted a solution. Perhaps this time?...

When I boot-up my computer, often one or more icons are missing in the
system tray (sometimes the one for the mouse, sometimes the one for the
utility closeall.exe, etc.) If I click on the program closeall.exe in the
Program Files subdirectory, I get a message that closeall is already
running; but without an icon to click in the system tray, I can't use that
utility.

Does anyone know of a utility that I could download and install that would
update/refresh the system tray? Thanks.

Hi Norman,

I'm generally not a fan of too many little 'utilities', so this may not be
the answer you're after....

What happens when you try to directly set the Windows settings? Have you
tried?:

Right click on an open area of the task bar and select properties. To the
right of the 'Hide inactive icons' tick mark, select customize. Under
customize you should be able to make your icon for closeall.exe showup by
setting it to 'always show' .
