How can I read the IE history by programming?

I find the history folder are not a real directory and the Internet
shortcuts can only be viewed through (i)explorer. But I need to search
the history, can anybody help? Can I use Java to search w/o COM?

I'm not sure but isn't the history stored in the registry, the .net framework
2.0 can easily read the registry.

you can find history items by date-time or (and) by keywords in URL or
page title.
