how can I read Excel documents, with Microsoft works?

Probably a dumb question... but, Is there a program/download/converter so
that I can read a Excel document when Im running a Windows XP Operating
system with Microsoft Works as my only word program??? This very frustrating.

Recent versions of Works will open Excel spreadsheets albeit with some
problems converting formulae.
