How can I prevent my error "couldn't create hyperlink to ^0"?

My PowerPoint program is useless as it is since it won't advance from 1 slide
to the next in "slide show" mode. Instead it displays the message
"PowerPoint couldn't create a hyperlink to ^0". I have no idea what this
means, and have not tried to embed any hyperlinks in any slideshows. What is
this about and how can I fix it?
