I use double line in the main body of the text.
When I want to insert an equation into the line, the equation
is aligned lower than other words. How can I correct this?

THANKS.

Critical information here is what version of Word you're using
(and on what operating system), and what are the steps you're
going through to insert the equation into the document. Without
that information, I can give a general response that may or may
not help...

Wherever you want the equation to go, that's where your cursor
should be when you select Insert > Object > Microsoft Equation
(or when you click on the toolbar icon, if you've installed one).
If the Insert > Object dialog has a checkbox that says "Float
over text", that *must* be *unchecked*. With Equation Editor
open, create your equation. Click outside the equation boundary
to exit Equation Editor and go back to Word.

If that still doesn't align the equation properly, then go to
your Tools menu in Word, and select Options. Select the "Edit"
tab. If there's an option that says "Insert/paste pictures as:",
make sure the dropdown box says "In line with text". None of the
other options are what you would normally want for equations.

If those suggestions don't work, write back and be as specific as
you can.

I use office 2003 and windows XP.
I don't see "Float over text" in the insert object funtion.
In the tools menual, the "In line with text" was set correctly.

I also encountered a similiar problem: My friend wrote one paragraph
and I copy and paste then continue to write another paragraph. If I mark
them, I can see that one paragraph has words in the center of the black
background bar and the other one has the words aligned to the top of the
black bar. So when I put the two paragraphs together, there is one line
of spacing different from others.

If you want to send me a "problem document" privately, I'll look
at it. Otherwise, I don't have any idea what's causing the
problem.

For the benefit of anyone else with the same problem,
"thanksmile" and I have been able to solve this problem offline.
The problem was caused by inadvertently using a style which
caused the main text to be raised by 5 points. Since all of the
text in this area of the document was raised by 5 pts, everything
looked normal. When the equation was inserted though, it wasn't
raised by 5 pts, so it was lower than the text, leading to the
conclusion that it was the equation that was out of place, when
it was in fact the text surrounding the equation that was out of
place.

To help prevent this, it's a good idea to keep the task pane
visible (Office XP or 2003), and in the task pane display the
document formatting. You can turn this on by selecting Format >
Styles and Formatting.
