My computer is down an I have no printer! I have to go to the library to
print my resume. Oh an plus the fact I can't save on floppy. How can I
retrieve my resume from another computer?

If your computer doesn't work, then you're not going to be able to get
any documents off of its hard drive.

Why not set up and Internet email account, such as HotMail, and email
it. Then at the library you should be able to access your email and
print it out.

Whoops, I missed the part about the entire computer being down - I
thought it was just the printer.

If that's the case disregard my suggestion.

If you cannot start your PC, then the only way to get the file off the hard
drive is to remove the hard drive from the PC and connect it by IDE or USB
to another computer. For the former you will have to open the PC, something
that most people - and certainly not libraries - will not allow you to do
with their hardware. For the latter you need an adapter and power supply,
which you can get cheaply via eBay - eg
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41993&item=6717741088&rd=1.
(I have bought from this supplier on a number of occasions and the service
has been fast and efficient, but note the link is for a UK version. You'll
need to search eBay for a US power supply version if that is what you
require).

Of course, if the reason your PC won't start is that the hard disc is
fatally corrupt, then this ploy will not work and you will have to consider
whether you need to consult a specialist to recover the data from the hard
drive, which is unlikely to be cheap!

You may be able to find a version of your resume if you access your email
account from another system. Once upon a time, I used AOL and my computer
went down. I was able to get to a previously sent copy of my resume at the
library by reviewing my sent mail.
