Not /quite/ sure what you mean by "I want my files to open in my d: drive".
Files don't open "in a drive" they open in memory. Files are STORED on a
drive.
Now, please re-phrase your question, and tell us EXACTLY what you would like
to do.

Go to Programs>Accessories - right click on the Windows Explorer icon,
select Properties and type or copy/paste the following into the Target
box:

%systemroot%\EXPLORER.EXE /e,d:

You can also create a Desktop icon for Windows Explorer with the same
command.

When I open "Word" and go to "file - open" the first location is either "My
Documents" or my "C:" drive. I then have to click down to locate the files
that I have in folders on my "D:" drive to get to the exact file I want. Can
I set up my system to skip over the "My Documents" or my "C:" drive to go
directly to "D:" when my files are stored?

Right click on My Documents on your desk top/Properties/Target, change
it to D:\

Actually niether of the 2 solutions worked because one did not recognize the
location and the other - MY Documents does not contain the files I
need...they are in seperate folders on my D: drive...

In Word or any of my other applications like Illustrator or Photoshop....It
takes a long time to locate my files that I want to work on.

then in Tools-Options set the default document locations to where YOU want
them to be.

AGAIN, right click on My Documents on your desk top/Properties/Target,
change it to D:\

Word 2000 has a tab on the options dialog called "File locations". Perhaps
you can change it there.
