I need to find a program to design personal checks and deposit slips, and
don't know where to get this info, thanks.

Start with a ruler and a the documents you want to design and transfer the
measurements to a Word document. Tip: use a table to layout the texts.

This newsgroup is for questions about Microsoft Word, and your
question appears to be completely off-topic here. But to give
you an idea of just how complicated you don't realize the process
is, you need the E13B font and MICR toner/ribbon to print the
routing and account numbers at the bottom of a check, and the
remainder of the printing (both front and back) and the paper you
print your checks on must conform to Federal Reserve Board
Regulation CC, Regulation Z, and Check 21.

Interesting.

AFAIK, in the UK, a cheque is simply an instruction to your bank and can be
written on anything. The bank do, of course, have to be confident that it
came from you but the signature, in theory, should be sufficient as it is
all that they hold by way of identification. I have no doubt that a quick
telephone call warning them that they are about to receive a cheque written
on the side of a cow, say, would be helpful :-)
