How do I create the German umlaut (a "u" with 2 does over it) in my Outlook
and Word documents?

I am in the United States and have a default configured Windows XP Pro
workstation.

I was told all I needed to do was hold down ALT and press the numbers 0246
but this does not appear to work.

Can anyone help me out?

ü alt 0252
Ü alt 0220

Make sure you use the numeric keyboard.

Get all the alt codes here:-

I leave a shortcut to the "Character Map" pgm in my toolbar. "CM" has Arial
set as its font and I just double click the letter I want then return to
document an insert (cntl v)thus ü. It also gives you the alt + number
sequence for the character, in this case alt+0252 - ü. Num Lock must be on
(default state) and you must use the numeric pad for ALL FOUR digits.
