There should be no difference between WinXP and Win98SE that would cause
your MS Office Apps not to work! So, let's put the OS aside for the moment.
If your tax returns were created using some Office App, you may need to
reload that Office App to use it again. There is a small possibility that
the older Office Apps might need some revision to work with the new version
of Office, in which case you should check with the tech supt folks for the
older Office Apps to see if they have patches that will work, workarounds,
or require a newer version.
You may need to go into your Office XP applications and set the location of
your files, older Office Apps, etc. so that it can see them and find the
files/programs when they are called.
If you need further help, the experts who hang out in the
microsoft.public.office.misc or perhaps microsoft.public.office.setup should
be able to provide better assistance on the Office products and issues with
older apps.

I was a Windows beta tester for many years and as such got Win98/SE for
free on multiple platforms. That said, I recently bought and installed WinXP
on four of my systems along with Win XP office pro. Recently, I had a
notebook go bad and decided to install Win XP on my primary system. I did
but then found that my legal MS Office Apps did not work and were not even
seen even for my past Tax Returns.....???? EEK.
What can I do to corrrect this immense problem???? Should I simply
reinstall Win98SE, and do the new tax return from that old computer?
