How can a dvd crash my computer?

Some downloaded dvds mounted on virtual disk either freeze or crash my XP
prof SP2. Can anyone give me an explanation of what causes this? I have
an ATI 9800 Pro, MSI K8 neo2 Plat, AMD64 4000, 1GB

Probably bugs in whatever software you're using to provide the virtual disk.
