The Outlook Connector add-on which adds support for Microsoft's new
HTTP/Deltasync protocol for Live Hotmail works with OL 2003/2007. It
does not work with OL2002.
Free accounts don't get POP/SMTP access. You only get HTTP/WebDAV
access which Outlook and Outlook Express know how to support (you create
an HTTP account in them). However, Microsoft is dropping DAV and moving
to Deltasync. They had planned to move completely away from DAV to
Deltasync back at the end of June but user noise had them rethink that
decision and postpone the change. They didn't say when they would make
the change. Some claim it's at the end of December yet users have
already found they cannot use HTTP/WebDAV in Outlook or OE. Support for
OE died in 2002 so there will be nothing to fix it. The add-on for
Outlook doesn't work with versions earlier than 2003.
Your choices are to use Windows Live Mail (WLM) which replaces OE,
upgrade OL 2002 to a later version (and use the add-on since neither OL
2003 or 2007 natively support Deltasync), or pay for a Windows Live
Hotmail Plus account to give you POP/SMTP access.
