Hotmail Server Info...

Jeff S.

I have Hotmail Live but still can't connect with Windows Mail. I don't
have a clue where to find the necessary Server info, SMTP, etc. to type in.
Do I get that from Hotmail somewhere or Cox.net? I am far older than any
of you and most of this is Greek to me. Outlook Express was never this
difficult to set-up or use. I tried installing Mozilla Thunderbird and
couldn't make it work either! I am an older dog in desperate need of help
to learn this new trick!

Any advice, help or instruction would be immensly appreciated.
Sincere Thanks -- Jeff S.

Cox email addresses will work with Windows Mail. Hotmail addresses
will not, but you can switch to the newer Windows Live Mail, which
accommodates both types of email (POP and Hotmail HTTP).
Get Windows Live Mail here: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Thank You so much for the reply!
Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Mail are not the same? I'm using Win
Live Hotmail already.
And will that link provide the Server and SMTP info I need, or at least tell
me where it's located?
I am clueless as to how I am just supposed to know where one 'goes' or what
file to open, etc.
I will find out tomorrow after work. I've never actually used my Cox
email, I may have to for an easy solution.

Microsoft messed-up a good thing; I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard!
Sincere appreciation for the information. I will use it and see what I
come up with.

There's a whole family of programs whose names start with Windows Live.

I've read that if you let Windows Live Mail know you want to connect to
Hotmail, it will start helping you find the right way to help you set up.

If you also want to use your Cox account, look here:

Both Windows Mail and Wiindows Live Mail allow you to have
more than one email account. Windows Mail puts all the incoming
mail into one Inbox; Windows Live Mail uses a separate set of
folders for each account.

Windows Live Mail does everything Windows Mail does, plus the
added ability to use Hotmail/MSN/Live.com accounts.
No need to know about servers, WLM automatically completes
that information when you give it your Hotmail addy.

Sincere Thank You's to everyone for the helpful info. I'm just now able to
get on my computer, so I don't have a progress report just yet.

I will be looking into Windows Live Mail and decide whether or not I like
what I see. Today at work I was able to view the Hotmail Server address
[begins with "http"; i didn't realize that] via the OE on my XP work
computer. So now I have that info if needed for Cox or Thunderbird, etc.
I never did see the SMTP [outgoing?] info, but as Mr. VanderMolen wrote, I
may not need it anyway. I'd still like to find it anyway - ya' just never
know.

Thanks for helping a much older and extremely confused person try to figure
this out!
