I have just installed Outlook 2000 on my home computer. Can I
configure it to have my Hotmail (or Yahoo) mail go to my Inbox? If
so, how?
TIA
David
Microsoft doesn't support webmail providers other than itself, so you cannot
define HTTP accounts in OL2000 for Yahoo. You also cannot define HTTP
accounts for Hotmail in OL2000, but you can in OL2002 which was the first
version of Outlook to support HTTP accounts. (Well, as I recall, there may
be a kludge to make OL2000 connect to Hotmail; check
www.slipstick.com as
that's where I remember seeing it.)
Also, each HTTP account (in OL2002) gets its own information store (i.e.,
..pst file). All POP3 accounts defined in Outlook are aggregated into the
one Inbox. All HTTP accounts get their own Inbox (because each information
store is separate).
Since you are using OL2000, probably the best way to get Hotmail using it
would be to get Hotmail Popper. It runs as a local proxy that does HTTP to
POP3 conversion. You define POP3 accounts in Outlook for each of your
Hotmail accounts but configure them to connect to Hotmail Popper instead of
your ISP or to Hotmail. Hotmail Popper then connects to Hotmail, yanks your
e-mail, and delivers it to Outlook as though Outlook had connected to a POP3
mail server.
I don't offhand remember the URL to the Hotmail Popper web site, but you can
do a Google search on "Hotmail Popper".
Similarly, YahooPOPs is an HTTP-to-POP3 proxy you can use to get Yahoo
e-mail into Outlook. (
