OK, I have had pretty good experience so far in using and smoothing out
issues with WinXP pro....

At Logon Screen:

1) I have setup admin rights on my acct, and have setup an 'everyone else'
acct with limited rights, but what is with the email notification at this
point on MY user acct? Its hotmail, and these are accts that are not
mine.... I don't really care that there are '7 messages waiting for me' that
aren't even my emails....

HOW DO I TURN THIS FEATURE OFF?

I have searched hi and lo for this Q, to no avail......

any answers from you experts?

Well, just wanted to say IT WORKED!!!

So I take the time to say Thank You......

That feature should be a simple right click and select 'Disable this
feature' type item....

Again, thx a bunch

You're welcome and thanks for posting back. It can also be set by one of
the options in TweakUI, one of the powertoys. TweakUI has a lot of
other nice settings. You can get it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Added info:

For Passport/Unread Mail Issues:

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2. Advanced/Manage
Passwords/Remove.

Tip:

Add Control Userpasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

or:

Disable Unread Mail on the Welcome Screen (Line 100)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To remove an account or to change the count manually Go to:
Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.
