hot swap cd rom

I have just purchased a notebook but the cd rom and
floppy are hot swappable. The Hard disk has had an fdisk
and format but when I try and load boot files from floppy
and then remove floppy drive to insert cd rom. I have a
problem because the cd rom is not recognised.
The standard cd rom drivers do not pick up the cd rom.
Any help would be appreciated??

You may well find that the Floppy and CD are only hot-swappable once you've
got Windows on there, I'm not sure you can use them how it sounds like you
want to.

Have you just tried booting off the install CD?
