horror stories

I am thinking of reinstalling xp. Lots of reasons, it's
been a year, computer is getting slower, I want to set up
a different partition scene, etc.

I came to the newsgroup hoping to get some encouragement
and all I see are horror stories. What are the chances
of actually having a successful reenstall?

I did an in place reinstall a couple of months ago and
while I all most had a heart attack when it ask me to
register again I ingnored that and it worked.

But I really want to do a clean. This is not an upgrade
situation and I'm a little nervous having read the post
from the guy who said his was an OEM. I guess mine is
also, so should I worry?

Should I run a ghost program on my C: drive? I don't have
one and it would cost at least half of what a new xp
would cost

The computer is pretty much the same as when I activated
it, the motherboard, ram and HD's are exactly the same
but the CD's are new. Should I give up now and just go
buy another copy and save the aggravation? Or is there
reasonable expectation of success.

Thanks

Why are you worried about re-register? Did you lose the
product key?

Check for OEM:
control panel
system
general tab
if OEM appears on the number in center of window it is OEM

I do dozens of new/reinstalls a week. The only ones that go bad are those
machines with Hardware Issues. Go for it.
