Home xp Problems Please Help

i see the splash logo for win xp home edition then screen
goes
blank this is first time I booted system right out of the
box and i hear it go to the screen where you enter your
name and so on. but the screen is blank i cant see but by
the music i know what screen its on. How can i fix the
monitor from going blank monitor is not shutting off. just
goes blank
